Year (ni á n) surname

It belongs to the Chengboyi and Yan families, with its ancestors being Jiang Shang, Yi Zhongnian, and Nianfu. The ancestors of the Nian family who migrated to Hongdong Dahuai Tree during the Ming Dynasty were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other places. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to move to other places in Hongdong Dahuai Tree. There are four main sources of surnames:

① Originating from taking ancestral names as surnames. According to the book "Tracing the Roots of Chinese Surnames", during the Spring and Autumn Period, the son of King Ling of Zhou, Nianfu, was killed due to the chaos within the Zhou royal family. His descendants took his name Nian as their surname.

② Derived from the surname Jiang. According to the "History of Lu", there were descendants of Duke Taigong Jiang Shang of Qi with the surname Nian.

③ Derived from taking my grandfather's name as my surname. In the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Xiang of Qi was killed by Qi generals Lian Cheng and others for his debauchery, and the son of Duke Xiang's uncle, Yi Zhongnian, was appointed as the ruler. Fortunately, Duke Huan of Qi, who succeeded to the throne, was wise and enabled the state of Qi to turn danger into safety. The ignorant son took the name of his grandfather Yi Zhongnian as his surname because his father was killed in just one month as a ruler.

④ Derived from the surname Yan. According to the Biography of Nian Fu in the History of Ming Dynasty, in the early Ming Dynasty, the Minister of Revenue, Nian Fu, originally surnamed Yan, changed his mother's surname to Nian to avoid war. His descendants took the year as their surname.
