Gu (g ǔ) surname
Gu (g ǔ) surname
It belongs to the Chengji family, with its ancestor being the ancient Duke Danfu, and is the 208th contemporary surname in China. The ancestors of the ancient family who migrated to Hongdong Dahuai Tree during the Ming Dynasty were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other places. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to move to other places in Hongdong Dahuai Tree. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shanxi and other places.
The earliest record of ancient surnames can be found in the Eastern Han Dynasty's "Customs and Traditions" section on surnames.
There are three main sources of surnames:
① Originating from the Ji surname. According to the "Customs and Customs: Surnames" and "Differentiation of Ancient and Modern Surnames", the ancestor of the Zhou ethnic group, Hou Ji, originally led the Zhou ethnic group to live in Tai. The former site of Tai was located in the southwest of Wugong County, Shaanxi Province. In late summer, Hou Ji's great grandson Gong Liu moved to Bindi to live. In the late Shang Dynasty, the nomadic tribes of Rong and Di around Bin became strong and constantly attacked the Zhou people, making it impossible for the Zhou people engaged in agricultural production to settle down. At that time, the leader of the Zhou tribe was Gu Gongtan. He saw that Bingdi had become a target of attack by the barbarians and decided to find another ideal place to develop agricultural production. So he led the Zhou people across mountains and rivers to Qishan, which is now the Weihe Plain at the northwest foot of Qishan County, Shaanxi Province. This is a fertile land that is very suitable for the development of agricultural production. Gu Gong Danfu led his people to settle here, cleared the land, built ancestral temples and palaces, and even built strong city walls. He also ordered the reform of traditional customs in primitive tribal societies, established officials, and formulated systems. Under his governance, the Zhou ethnic group gradually became strong and formed the scale of vassal states. Due to Gu Gong Danfu's steadfast adherence to benevolence and righteousness, and the people's love and admiration for him, after King Wen of Zhou conquered the Shang Dynasty and established the Zhou Dynasty, he was honored as the King of Zhou. Among the descendants of Duke Gu, there is a clan named Gu who takes his name as their surname.
② Originating from the Cheng family since ancient times. According to the "Qianfu Lun", a branch of the descendants of the Gu Cheng clan was separated and named the Gu surname.
③ Originating from the change of his surname. According to the "Annals of the Official Family" in the Book of Wei, during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, there was a Tuxi clan in the Northern Wei Dynasty who took over the northern surname and changed it to the ancient Han surname after moving to the Central Plains.
The ancient surnames' county lords mainly include Xin'an County, Xinping County, and Hanoi County. Xin'an Commandery: In the first year of the Taikang reign of the Jin Dynasty (280 AD), Xindu Commandery was renamed Xin'an Commandery. Equivalent to the northwest of Zhejiang Province and the southeast of Anhui Province, as well as the Xin'an River Basin area.
The hall names of ancient surnames mainly include Guanzhentang. Official Precepts Hall: Official Precepts are the rules that officials must abide by. The ancient masterpiece of the Tang Dynasty, "Official Precepts," reads as follows: Pay attention to small truths, like walking on a small path. A big car can overturn them (although it is a small path, it can overturn your big car). It is better to understand without forgiveness (if you do not know forgiveness, you only understand) than to be ignorant
