The Chengji family, with its ancestor being Guiyi, is the 190th contemporary surname in China. The ancestors of the Gui family who migrated to Hongdong, Hongdong, and Zhaocheng counties during the Ming Dynasty were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, and Zhaocheng County. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to move to other places in Hongdong, and by the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shanxi, and other places.

Gui, Yang, Jian, and Yin were homophones during the Qin and Han dynasties.

The county lords of the Gui surname mainly include Tianshui Commandery, Youzhou Commandery, and Yan Commandery. Tianshui Commandery: First established in the third year of Yuanding in the Western Han Dynasty (114 BC). The capital was located in Pingxiang (now northwest of Tongwei County, Gansu Province). Equivalent to the areas east of Tianshui and Longxi in present-day Gansu Province.

The ancestor of the Gui family in Shouguang, named Heng, moved from Hongdong, Shanxi to the Gui family in Shouguang City, Shandong Province during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty.
