Surname Su (s ū)
It belongs to the Kunwu family, with its ancestor being Su Yansheng. It is the 41st surname among the top 100 contemporary surnames in China. The contemporary population of Su surname is about 5.6 million, accounting for 0.47% of the total population in China. The ancestors of the Su family, who migrated from Hongdong and Dahuaishu during the Ming Dynasty, were from Pingyang and Taiyuan prefectures, Ze, Lu, Liao, Fen, and Qin provinces, as well as Hongdong and Zhaocheng counties. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, it was ordered to relocate the large locust trees in Hongdong to other places. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shanxi and other places.
The earliest record of the Su surname can be found in the Tang Dynasty's "Yuanhe Surname Compilation".
There are two main sources of surnames: ① Source one's own surname. According to the "Su Xun Genealogy" and "Yuanhe Surname Compilation", it is said that in ancient times, Emperor Zhuanxu of the Gaoyang clan gave birth to a son named Lao Tong, who gave birth to Zhong Li and Wu Hui. Chongli was appointed as the Imperial Censor Huozheng and was called Zhurong. He was executed for his crimes and later became the Sima family. His younger brother Wu replied to Huo Zheng, and Wu gave birth to Lu Zhong, who had six sons in his lifetime. The eldest son was named Fan and was given his surname, Kunwu Kingdom; The next day, Huilian, was given the surname Zhen and named Cenhu Kingdom; The next day is Gui, who took the surname Peng and became the ancestor of Peng; The next day, Laiyan, whose surname is Yun, was born in countrymen; The next day is An, for the reins and livestock, surnamed Cao, for the state of Cao; The next day is Jilian, with the surname Mi. Six people, all of whom have descendants, are later divided into several surnames. Kunwu started with his own surname, and later became Su, Gu, Wen, and Dong. During the Xia Dynasty, Kunwu was a vassal uncle. When he went on business until the Zhou Dynasty, one of his descendants, Angsheng, became a court official who could pacify punishment and educate the people. Duke Zhou called him Angsheng and granted him the fiefdom of Su, which he later moved to Wenyi (now southwest of Wen County, Henan Province). In the Spring and Autumn Period, the state of Su was conquered by the Di people. The descendants of the angry descendants took the city name Su as their surname, and later lived in Hanoi, Fufeng, and Wugong. It is the surname Su from Henan.
② Originating from ancient ethnic minorities. According to the Book of Han, during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han in Liaodong, there were people surnamed Su who were attached to the Han dynasty; According to the "Annals of the Official Family" in the Book of Wei, the compound surname of the Xianbei tribe in Northern Wei was changed to the Han surname Su after Emperor Xiaowen of Wei moved the capital to Luoyang. It is the surname Su from Luoyang, Henan.
The Su surname county lords mainly include Wugong County, Fufeng County, Lantian County, Henan County, Henan County, and Henan County. Wugong County: During the Warring States period, Qin Xiaogong established Wugong County, with its capital located 40 miles east of Meixian County, Shaanxi Province, on the south bank of the Wei River. In the third year of Jiande in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (574 AD), Wugong County was established in Zhongtingchuan (located in Wugong Town, northwest of Wugong County, Shaanxi Province).
