Feng (f ē ng) surname
It is the 270th contemporary surname in our country. The ancestors of the Feng family, who migrated to Hongdong Dahuai Tree during the Ming Dynasty, were people from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other places. In the early Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to move to other places in Hongdong Dahuai Tree. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shanxi and other places.
The earliest record of enfeoffment of surnames can be found in the Tang Dynasty's "Yuanhe Surname Compilation".
There are two main sources of surnames:
① Derived from the surname Jiang. According to the "Family Name Garden", it is said that in ancient times, Emperor Yan Shennong had a grandson named Ju, who was of high moral character and profound knowledge, and was a famous sage in ancient times. Before Huangdi ascended to the throne, he admired his reputation and visited him specifically. After a conversation, he was greatly impressed and became his teacher. After Huangdi ascended to the throne, he granted the fiefdom to Ju, and the former fiefdom was located in the west of present-day Fengqiu County, Henan Province. The descendants of Feng Ju took Feng Guoming as their surname.
② Originating from the change of surname by the Ben family. According to the "Annals of the Official Family" in the Book of Wei, the Xianbei tribe of Northern Wei adopted the surname of Feng after the migration of the Ben family to the Central Plains.
The county lords with surnames mainly include Bohai Commandery. Bohai Commandery: located along the coast of Bohai Bay between Liaoning, Hebei, and Shandong provinces. In the second year of the Xiantian reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang (713), the Tang Dynasty conferred the title of Prince of Bohai upon Da Zuorong. Feng Longzhi, a native of Bohai during the Later Wei Dynasty, lived through the Five Dynasties of Northern Wei and was a prominent family.
The main hall name for a given surname is Pinglu Hall. Pinglu Hall: During the Tang Dynasty, Feng Ao served as the Xingyuan Jiedushi of Pinglu. He made contributions to pacifying bandits, and the emperor ordered him to write an imperial edict titled 'Comfort for Border Soldiers' on behalf of the emperor. After he finished writing it, he handed it over to the emperor for review. The emperor praised him for writing well and gave him multiple palace brocades (silk fabrics used by the emperor and empress in the palace)
