Qi (q ī) surname
Qi (q ī) surname
The Chengji family, with its ancestor being Sun Linfu, is the 206th contemporary surname in China. The ancestors of the Qi family, who migrated from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongdong County, Zhaocheng County, and other places, were descendants of the Hongdong locust tree in the Ming Dynasty. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, they were ordered to move to other places, and by the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Shanxi, and other places.
The earliest record of the surname Qi can be found in the Tang Dynasty's "Yuanhe Surname Compilation".
The surname originates from the Ji surname. According to the "Genealogy of Surnames" and the "Differentiation of Ancient and Modern Surnames", during the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Wei Wu had a son named Gongzi Huisun, and his descendants took Sun as their surname. The seventh generation descendant of Huisun, Lin Fu, served as the Shangqing when presenting the Duke of Wei. The Duke indulged in sensual pleasures, causing the national strength of Wei to weaken day by day. Lin Fu, the Shangqing, and Ning Cong, the Yaqing, were deeply concerned and repeatedly advised him, but it did not work and instead aroused Wei Xiangong's suspicion. Once, Xian Xian Sun and Ning had lunch together. They were ordered to dress up and arrive at the palace early. However, from early morning until noon, there was no movement. They were so hungry that they felt dizzy and didn't dare to go back. Helpless, they had to ask the palace staff and found out that Wei Xian Gong was shooting arrows in the backyard. They couldn't help but burst into the palace and found the backyard. Wei Xian Gong, who was bending his bow and shooting arrows, pretended to be surprised and asked them why they were here. Sun Lin's father said, "Didn't Lord invite us to dinner? We waited..." Before he could finish speaking, Wei Xian Gong slapped his forehead and said, "Oh, I forgot. Let's do it next time! After saying that, he turned around and shot his arrows. Sun and Ning were both embarrassed, angry, and helpless. That night, Sun Lin's father sent his son Sun Kuai to see Duke Xian, using the excuse of requesting sick leave to observe his attitude. Unexpectedly, Duke Xian laughed heartily and said, "Your father must have been starving!" Then he asked the musician to play a piece of music that insulted Sun Linfu on the spot. Sun Linfu knew that Duke Xian harbored deep resentment towards him, so he and Ning Cong drove him away and appointed Duke Xian's uncle Qiu as Duke Shang. Shang Gong granted the land of Qi, which is now Puyang County, Henan Province, to Sun Linfu. Soon after, Sun Linfu's struggle for power with Ning Zong failed and he fled to the state of Jin. His descendants then took the name Qi as their surname.
The counties with the surname Qi mainly include Donghai County. There are two locations in Donghai County:
