The surname Qu
The surname Qu
It follows the surname of Mu Hou of Jin, with Cheng Shi as its founding ancestor. It is the 164th surname in contemporary China. The founding ancestors of the Qu family, who immigrated from the Great Locust Tree in Hongtong during the Ming Dynasty, were from Pingyang Prefecture, Hongtong County, Zhaocheng County and other places. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, they were relocated to other places in a concentrated manner from the Great Locust Tree in Hongtong. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, their descendants were distributed in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shanxi and other places.
The earliest record of the surname Qu can be found in the "Customs and Traditions: Surnames" section of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
The surname originated from the Ji surname. According to the "Tongyi of Customs and Traditions", during the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Mu of Jin bestowed upon his youngest son Chengshi
In Quwo, descendants of Master Cheng began to take Qu as their surname.
The main ancestral home of the Qu surname is Yanmen Prefecture. Yanmen Commandery: Established by King Wuling of Zhao during the Warring States Period, it remained so in the Qin and Han Dynasties.
