[Origin of the Surname] The surname originates from the Liu surname. According to tradition, in ancient times there was a man surnamed Liu who lost both parents at an early age and was raised by his maternal uncle, whose surname was Fu. Later, he rose to official rank; never forgetting his uncle’s kindness, he petitioned the emperor to allow him to adopt the combined surname “Liu-Fu.” The emperor granted his request, thus giving rise to the Liu-Fu surname.
