Immigration Scene SculptureHongtong Dahuaishu

These three sets of immigrant‑scene sculptures vividly depict the history of migration beneath the Great Locust Tree.

The Ming‑dynasty migrations constituted an unprecedented, large‑scale, state‑directed movement of people. Beginning in the second year of the Hongwu era under Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang and continuing until the fifteenth year of the Yongle era under Emperor Zhu Di, this process spanned fifty years. According to official historical records, there were as many as eighteen major, government‑organized collective relocations, involving more than one million migrants. In terms of duration, geographic scope, organizational scale, and sheer numbers of those relocated, these migrations reached the zenith of China’s migratory history.
