Post stations, postal roads
This ancient post‑station gate was built in the eighth year of the Republic of China along the original historic postal route. Back then, migrants followed this official road as they journeyed to new lands far from their hometowns. Carved above the gate are the four characters “Colonial Legacy” (where “colonial” connotes reproduction), signifying that this is the place where our ancestors thrived and multiplied, and where their customs have been passed down through the generations.
This road was the official north–south thoroughfare of the time, also known as the post road, and it was the essential route to Taiyuan Prefecture. Anyone familiar with the famous opera “Yu Tang Chun” will know that Su San was escorted from here when she was being transferred out of Hongtong County; just a single wall away, one had already left the city of Hongtong.
