Guangji Temple
Guangji Temple was first founded in the second year of the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty, in 628 AD. Through continuous development and expansion, by the Song Dynasty it had reached its zenith, covering a vast area and attracting countless pilgrims. Moreover, at that time, Hongdong, situated along an ancient post road, served as a vital hub: to the north it connected to Youyan, to the east to Qilu, to the south to Qin and Shu, and to the west to Helong. Coupled with Guangji Temple’s spacious grounds, which made it an ideal location for the government to establish offices, station officials, gather migrants, and issue travel allowances and permits, the temple was chosen as a central gathering point during the mass resettlement campaigns of the early Ming Dynasty.
