Introduction to the Ancestral Worship Festival at the Great Locust Tree
As the tide of reform has surged, “root‑ancestor culture” activities—centered around the historic site of the ancient Dahuaishu tree—have flourished as never before. Across the land of Jiuzhou and throughout the world, descendants of the Dahuaishu tree are increasingly driven by a deep yearning to return home and trace their roots, while the wave of pilgrimages to their ancestral homeland grows stronger with each passing day. To align with this historic trend, in 1991, the Hongtong County Party Committee and County Government, adopting the approach of “using culture as a stage for economic development,” organized the first Hongtong Dahuaishu “Root‑Seeking and Ancestral Worship” Festival, designating it to take place annually from April 1 to 10, with its principal observance falling on Qingming Festival—the traditional Han Chinese tomb‑sweeping day. On the eve of the inaugural Root‑Seeking and Ancestral Worship Festival, tens of thousands of small birds descended from the sky, first flying toward Hongtong County.
2025 Qingming Memorial Address for the Ancient Locust Tree and Our Ancestral Settlers
On the fourth day of the fourth month in the year 2025 of the Common Era, as the Qingming Festival approaches, all the staff of the Hongdong Great Locust Tree Ancestral Root-Seeking and Ancestor-Worship Park, together with descendants of migrants from across the land, have gathered humbly at the foot of Mount Huo and along the banks of the Fen River. With offerings of the five grains and sacrificial libations, we respectfully pay homage to the ancient ancestors of our people who were displaced by the great locust tree.
2022 Qingming Ritual Address to the Ancient Locust Tree and Our Ancestral Forebears Who Relocated
On the fifth day of the fourth month in the year 2022 of the Common Era, the year of Renyin, as the season of Qingming arrives. A gentle east wind stirs the air, and the sky is clear beneath the bright sun. We, descendants of the great locust tree of Hongdong, with hearts full of devout reverence, observe a solemn and dignified ceremony, accompanied by harmonious and joyous music, to respectfully offer our rites to the spirits of our forebears who were displaced when the ancient locust tree was uprooted.

On the fourth day of the fourth month in the year 2021 of the Common Era, the year of Xin-Chou, as the Qingming Festival arrives, a gentle breeze blows and the air is mild; the pines and cypresses stand lush and verdant. The descendants of the ancient locust tree, with due reverence, honor the past and cherish the present, solemnly offering sacrifices to our revered ancestors.

On the fourth day of the fourth month of the year 2020, in the Year of Gengzi, as the Qingming Festival arrives, we, the descendants of the great locust‑tree migrants, with hearts full of devotion, solemnly offer our rites to the ancient ancestors who once migrated from beneath that venerable locust tree. We present the grand sacrifice and perform the eight‑row dance; the locust‑tree lineage, with heartfelt reverence, respectfully extol the merits of our forebears and pray for the enduring peace and prosperity of China.
