During the Ming Dynasty, the ancestral founder of the Qian clan among the migrants from the Great Locust Tree in Hongtong was a native of Pingyang Prefecture, Hongtong County, and Zhaocheng County. In the early Ming period, at the imperial decree, these families were gathered at the Great Locust Tree in Hongtong and relocated to other regions. By the late Qing dynasty, their descendants had spread across Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, and other areas. The earliest recorded mention of the Qian surname appears in the “Hundred Surnames of Hongtong’s Great Locust Tree.”
[Origin of the Surname] According to statistics from the Fourth National Population Census and the registration records of the Ancestral Worship Hall at Hongdong’s Great Locust Tree, the surname Qian is found in Henan, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, and other regions, tracing its origins to descendants of migrants who relocated from the Great Locust Tree site; however, the specific etymology of this surname remains unknown.
[Population] According to the results of the Fourth National Population Census, there are five people surnamed Qian in Shanxi Province.
[Altar Cabinet] The ancestral tablets of the Qian clan are enshrined in Altar Cabinet No. 10 of the Ancestral Hall beneath the Great Locust Tree.
